About

Stephen Cashmore, a graduate in mathematics from Leicester University, spent his working life as an auditor for various institutions; as an educator; and also as commissioning editor for  BPP Publishing. He is currently the assistant editor of Supernatural Tales magazine.

An expert at bridge (once the only qualified bridge teacher to hold that qualification in both England and Scotland), he has published countless articles on the subject both at home and abroad. He is the co-author of several books:

  • Plan the Play, Gollancz

  • Monster Book of Declarer Play, Methuen

    (Both co-authored with Dave Huggett)

  • Why They Win

    (co-authored with Justin Corfield)

Stephen is also known for his short stories, and was shortlisted for the James White Award in 2019.

After early retirement, he trained and started work as a freelance proofreader and editor. For five years he was the training director of what was then the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP), and is now the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP). During that time he created and co-wrote most of SfEP’s online training courses.

After losing his first wife in 1997, he proved that love knows no barriers, by finding his second wife across the globe in central China. They now live together in Ayr, on the beautiful west coast of Scotland, with a teenage son.
